4 URBAN HEALTH INECIATIVE SUPPORTED BY BMGF/FHI/CARE GSS is partnering with UHI to implement client outreach and community mobilization in urban slums of Gorakhpur city of UP since May 2010
With strength of 70 Peer Educators in Gorakhpur, women and couples in slum communities were mobilized for health and family planning counseling, and linked to quality services in public and private health facilities
Outreach and mobilization efforts by GSS reached a catchment area with 137,517 populations living in 59 urban slums in Gorakhpur
GSS’s able peer educators identified from these slums interacted closely with nearly 25,000 married women of reproductive age (MWRAs), and supported them to access contraceptive methods and services of their choice since 2011
5 LINK WORKER SCHEME UNDER NATIONAL AIDS CONTROL PROGRAMME GSS, Implemented LINK WORKER SCHEME at PRATAPGARHA district with the support of HLFPPT/UPSACS/NACO
Under NACP III goal of over all reduction of HIV/ AIDS vulnerability and the no
of new infections, especially catering to the rural HRGs, BPs and at risk population (MARA & EVA) through a decentralized district based prevention programme addressing issues of BCC, gender, sexuality, condom promotion, improve health seeking behaviour, integration of basic health services, reintegration of marginalized groups into community (HRGs, PLHAs), initiate youth friendly services and also strengthen care & referral services towards the targeted groups
Link Workers will reach out to those at risk and vulnerable individuals or groups who are at present not able to access to HIV related information and services
The scheme will promote risk reduction and motivate community members to adopt behaviour change
The outreach services provided under the scheme will ensure reaching out to key populations, linking them up with programmes and services and educating them about the modes of prevention
The Link Workers will provide HIV related information, demonstrate condom use, distribute condoms, refer patients for appropriate services and do follow-up to monitor and facilitate the consistent use of these services since 2013
6 NAI RISHNI SCHEME FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OF MINOROPTY WOMEN GSS, organize a five batch training for minority women with support of ministry of minority gov of India, Main objective of the scheme is to empower and instil confidence among minority women, including their neighbours from other communities living in the same village/locality, by providing knowledge, tools and techniques for interacting with Government systems, banks and other institutions at all levels
Empowerment of women from the minority communities and emboldening them to move out of the confines of their home and community and assume leadership roles and assert their rights, collectively or individually, in accessing services, facilities, skills, and opportunities besides claiming their due share of development benefits of the Government for improving their lives and living conditions
