Behaviour Change Communication of Flood-affected Villages of Gorakhpur
Objectives
- Coordination and assistance to other departments for the community based rehabilitation In 150 flood affected villages of Gorakhpur district
- To ensure availability and use of safe drinking water to all victims
- Promotion of personal health and hygiene practices among all households
- Promotion of environmental sanitation to check the vector borne, water born and water related diseases
- To reduce the possibility of HIV/AIDS in the proposed area though BCC
Activities
Planning Activities
- Orientation and planning of flood relief team
- Identification and orientation of village volunteer
- Preparation of database of Household / personal contact with the affected families
- Community meeting in each villages
- Networking and liaison with the line departments for relief and rehabilitation work
Community Action and Environmental Sanitation
- Promotion of school sanitation
- Immunisation of women and children
- Facilitation to the line departments for fogging of chemicals at the water logged and noxious rotting places
- Facilitation of disinfection process of line department and ensuring chlorination of all drinking water sources
Personal Protection
- Promotion of disinfectants after the dewatering, drying of flooded articles
- Promotion of home hygiene
- Behaviour change communication
- Promotion of water boiling and cooling practices at the household level (during flood)
- Promotion of hand-washing with soap at critical times
- Promotion of ladle to take out water from bucket/pitcher
- Promotion of use of chlorine tablets to disinfect water
- To check the open defecation near to the drinking water sources
- Use of bleaching powder/lime in the hand pumps and at the sewerage site
- Promoting listenership of flood radio spots and assessing its effect
